It’s very easy to fall into the habit of dissecting material in college and discarding anything that is not “useful” to the exam you have coming up next week, or the report that’s due in a day or to some paper you’re hoping to get published as an undergrad. I find myself doing this all the time. And the worst part is, when I do take a break and prioritize my enjoyment in life sometimes I catch myself feeling guilty for not advancing my mathematical skills. Your remarks about how it is important to spend time looking for the things that make you feel alive and how the path we take to find these things gives context to our experiences was a wonderful justification for making time to enjoy life. I think you say so...thank you for those kind words. I think you say something here that's spot on: it's hard to focus on what the point is, and it's so very easy to feel overwhelmed by all of the things we could be doing.

for what it's worth, I think it does get a little easier, if you're willing to sit with the possibilities for a little while. so many people find that a challenge though, you'll have to get used to a near constant chorus of voices clamoring for "focus."

I've never understood that. I know that what you described in the beginning of your piece is often something I myself strive for. I want to know a little bit about everything and I always make these grandiose plan to read a variety of informative books that I believe will teach me practical information. I think often times I myself get bogged down in just accumulating information and I forget to actually allow myself absorb and learn.
I think people, myself included, tend to get so absorbed with this mindset of learning as much as we can in the short time we have, that we lose sight of what the point of doing so is. I think we often forget that the reason we learn is to better ourselves and to allow ourselves to connect better with others. I think your piece really highlighted this idea and I am immensely glad you decided to share this piece of your life with us.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02530035815210557186noreply@blogger.com
